    Clutch Adjustment Questions

Hi everyone, my name is Kevin. I know this isn't the place for "introductions" and stuff, but this is my first post. I just have a quick hopefully simple question. I'm pretty new to motorcycles, and my 1978 GS550E is my first bike. It's been a dream so far for the whole like 800 miles i've put on it.

The only problem has been with the clutch lever. At first it wasn't a problem, but as i've ridden it, now when i let the clutch out, there are spots when it "grabs". It's hard to describe, but as i'm letting the lever out it'll stick in a spot, and i can get it out of the spot by releasing pressure on the lever, but then it's a jerky release instead of a steady release..if that makes sense.

I've lubed the cable, and adjusted it a hundred times to try and find the sweet spot, and it just won't seem to go away. I've followed the cable down to make sure there are no kinks or anything and it's totally clear. All of the cables are in great shape as are the housings, so i'm fairly certain there are no "snags" inside the cable housing or anything. Is there anything else anyone can suggest to try and get it right? Or do i just need to keep playing with the adjustment until it's gone?

    Thanks :]

NOTE: this is only from a stop when it snags. When i'm riding, and shifting into second/third/so on it's solid and easy. It's only in first when i'm starting.

hi and welcome to the site, it sounds like you may have a problem with the clutch release mechanism, down inside the front sprocket cover.
you need to strip it all out, give it a good clean and check for wear or damage. remove the pushrod as well and check it isn't bent. grease it up and refit it all, adjust it as per the manual and see how it feels then........

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

First take off the cable and see if it moves smoothly.
