Spline grease - Moly 60 alternative?

    Hi all,
I'm getting a new rear tire in the mail today, was hoping to mount this weekend (or even tonight/tomorrow). Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to investigate which grease I need for lubricating the spline on my shaft drive. All of the recommendations I see are for the Honda Moly 60 paste, but it appears it will not be possible to get my hands on some before the weekend arrives.

Is there a decent alternative available at a place like autozone, or advance auto parts? It seems to me that none of the things they carry have as high of a percentage of moly. Or I can't find the percentage anywhere.

I've seen axle grease mentioned. Is that a suitable substitute? Or should I just order the honda stuff and wait??

Loctite makes some high moly products. Might be easier to find the Honda grease though.

        Seems like a good alternative.

Huh... I thought that "Moly 60" meant that it was 60% moly. Regardless, I just ordered the 3oz. tube off amazon from a vendor in Michigan. Seems that none of these alternatives are available locally either. Guess I'll just cross my fingers and hope it ships fast, MI to OH should be quick enough!

            Be aggressive

Do you have a Honda dealer anywhere near you..?

You need about a tablespoon full. Check with the service department..take a small container...maybe they can "spare" a little for you instead of waiting...offer to buy it and they will probably give you some...

Then next week order a tube and have it around for the future.

There is a place real close to me called State 8 that sells Hondas. If my tube doesn't arrive by Saturday I might try this... good idea! And then when the tube does arrive I should be set on that stuff for life, lol.

Most, but not all, Honda dealers will have this on the shelf. Any BMW dealer would also have excellent spline grease available, but it will be terrifically expensive.

Ohio is full of GS riders -- there's bound to be a shaftie owner with a spare bit 'o grease somewhere around Akron.

I don't know where the 30% figure above comes from -- it's called "Moly 60" and right on the label it says it's 60% Moly.

Whatever happens, I wouldn't let it keep me from riding somewhere. Use the best grease you can find until you can get a tube of The Good Stuff.

Apparently it's 60% grease products, not 60% moly.
