How far would you go to clean this out? I'm a novice and do not want to deal with the cams yet, but I'm also concerned I'm going to wear out the motor severely. Am I over reacting? As I said I'm flushing out what I can, but I know there will be some left over.

Got some gasket material in the cam case. How screwed am I?
I had to replace the valve cover gasket and the previous owner used very large amounts of mystery compound to seal it. I scraped it away (took several hours) and I covered what I could, but seeing as the motor still had oil in it I could not tape off areas. I'm picking out the largest bits as I can see them, then I will soak the whole thing in oil hoping to flush out some more, but I know full well there is no way to get all the little bits of gasket material out without pulling the cams and whatnot.
