    It Works!

    I just did the valve clearances and wanted to mention that the soaking of the valve cover gasket in wd40 prior to installation worked quite well. The gasket came away cleanly from the cover as well as the head.

    Nice! Lot of WD40 haters, but it has it's uses.

      Interesting, A P-51 crew chief told me to use wheel bearing grease on gaskets so they come loose easy and it lets them squirm around while the engine warms up and everything stabilizes. If there's a gasket or o-ring used grease it is.

        I have heard that using anti-seize on the gasket works, too. I wasn't aware of that trick until after I had buttoned it back together the last time. WD40 was pretty easy and not as messy as grease.
