Dropped a nut down the cam chain channel

as the title says, I dropped a nut as I hadn't blocked up the holes, yep basic stuff but never again....now crank turns to a point then stops... my question is... will I cause damage to the engine by cranking it anti clockwise in an attempt to get it through to the sump??

If it isn't going to make it faster or safer it isn't worth doing

Try dropping the sump and pouring through old but clean oil. Chances are it'll flush it out (pour the oil down the cam chain tunnel).
