    Metmachex Swingarm and GS1000

Hopefull somebody can shed some light on this.

I have a GS1000 1978 and purchased a second hand Metmachex braced swingarm, it is stamped GS1000 so the correct one.

I tried to fit the swingarm but it fouls the pillion foot rest hangers. Looking at other threads somebody did say that they had a Metmechex swingarm for a GSX1100 in which he had to remove the pillion footrest hangers.

I have spoken to Metcmachex and they have told me that the GS1000 and GSX1100 are the same and should fit.

The only thing I can think of is that the GS1000 I have (1978) may have a early / different frame or footrest hangers.

The footrest hangers foul the swingarm both sides by about 12mm / 1/2 inch

    Cheers

Fouls the foot pegs or the frame hanger loop, that also anchors the exhaust?

Not sure what the question is, but all chain drive 1000's use the same frame loop arrangement.

You'll need to spread the footrest/exhaust hangers for cleared fit; some use a bottle jack for the task... and perhaps a bit of heat. Folks here have done the conversion, and maybe they'll jump in with process/pics.

Seems strange that you have to adapt the frame for a swingarm designed for the bike - have attached pic

Yet another reason to leave the bike STOCK.

common with some aftermarket swingarms hitting the rear footrest hangers, yes, just bend them out to clear

If the Metmachex hits the rear footpeg hangers so will the GSX swinger. I don't think that the quality control boys in the factory bothered much with checking the spread of those bits of the frame and the upgraded swingers fit some GS1000 frames out of the box and other frames need a tweak. There's no need to heat the frame as the loops bend really easily. I used to use a bottle jack but it's quicker and just as easy to use a bit of 4 x 2 and lever them apart (it's only a few millimetres).

If your 'zocchis were Stradas and eye to fork they should have fitted (though eye to eye will fit the shafties).

Same with mine. Bike was 3 weeks old when he fitted the swingarm.just hacked off what was in the raod. I made brackets for exhaust/footpegs. The GSX 100 swingarm should fit, and just get that one braced.
