    valve cover gasket

hey guys. first time poster here, new gs'er from oakland. so i've been working on a 78 gs1000e & this forum has been really helpful so far. i'm only leaking oil now from the "D" or "half moon" rubber pieces it seems at the valve cover. But its a lot of oil and seems to come from each one. I have no gasket on at the moment but sealed it with the black gunk stuff (cant remember brand). anything i can do short of ordering a new gasket and new rubber things?

buy a new gasket or make one yourself from a roll readily available at parts stores. If half moons are rock solid replace them they only a couple of bucks.
Others will chime in why its not a good idea to use liquid gaskets

My God man.....do it right or leave the damn bike alone....Get a proper Suzuki gasket and half moons and repair it correctly, it doesn't cost that much.

I understand that, but, you wont be riding long if some of that unknown black stuff gets down inside the engine and clogs an oil passage.
Check out Cliff's site for a load of tutorials on how to do repairs the correct way.
