    Tachometer noise

A beautiful whining noise is coming out of the tach (rpm gauge).

Any ideas? Or do I spray an unholy amount of wd40 into it.

    Can these be dismantled?

I saw something, somewhere, that demonstrated how to take about the gauges. Let me try and find it.

    Ah, here!

    From this page: http://www.thegsresources.com/gs_garage.htm

Hope that helps a little bit. But to answer your question: Yeah, I'd take them apart instead of just spraying WD40 in there blindly.

Mine was making a whirling whiny sound not to long ago. The tach cable found a way to pinch itself. Moved the cable and it stopped. I lubed it up just for good measure.

Don't take it apart just yet. Shoot some lube between the part that the cable spins and the threaded tube it spins in.
Spray Lithium Grease or something like that.

You wiill have to turn the gauge upside down to get it up in there. Not too much!

        Usually that's all it takes.

I like the powdered graphite lube myself.

First few times I just let a drop of motor oil drip into the cable hole, that worked great for about 100kms.

Since the 1st graphite lubing it's been smooth and quiet, no more issues popping up.
