Metric cotter pins are sized differently than the more common in the US SAE type. Most of the time you can find an equivalent, but not always. Particularly with the smaller sizes. The proper metric size is between two different SAE sizes.Ed

If it says to replace the used cotter pin with a new cotter then that is how it's done. I've had my share of experience with the R clips popping out at times. You don't use them on critical areas like axle nuts and other components that use cotter pins.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

2015 CAN AM RTS
Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.

A missing pin can kill you. Doesn't matter why its missing, the end result its the same.
No one ever steals cotter pins, and they certainly don't fall out if they are in right.

The operative statement/word here is "easy on, easy off", that alone makes me want to keep the cotter pins. Ask GSXR Ed what I did when I found a R clip/pin in his front axle nut. OH, and I found a piece of wire in the place of a cotter pin in one of his rear brake torque arm bolts. So you guys go out on a ride with an R-clip on the rear spindle, and when you come back it's gone?
