Trip Meter Starts Over at 1,000 miles?

My Tachometer with the mileage reports the miles just fine. However it seems my trip meter goes to 1,000 miles and then gos back to 0 and starts over. Same with everyone elses? My other bikes never did this.

It's only got 3 dials (OK - 4 with the 1/10th mile one...)

What did you expect it to do when it got past 999?
    Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

    Past:
    VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

Your tach does miles? Mostly odometers do that.

I keep thinkin of my other 250ccs Chinese which have another spot up and can log up to 10,000 miles before starting over to 0.

Most of us use the odometer to measure fuel mileage and reset it after every fill up, so 3 digits is fine.

That's why it's called a trip meter. I reset it after a day trip and or when I fill up. No real reason to let it reach 999.
