    petrol tap/cock

    hi all,when rebuilding a petrol tap/cock(gs750/1978) do i use sealant when reassembling,regards john.

    Between petcock and tank underside, there should be a nice oval o-ring to seal.Also special "sealing" washers under mounting bolts. Be aware that rebuilding petcocks is an iffy sport- the new stuff usually doesn't quite fit the 30+ old petcock casting.

      hi tom,when i replace the square vacume rubber do i put gasket sealant around the edge or just bolt up as is,regards j.

        No sealant required.

            As it was just atested too, rebuilding a petcock is most time an act of futility. Try yours and see if it works, if not, time to order a new one. Just be prepared.

            Stuff I've done to my bike:dancing: 1100E front end with new Sonic springs, 1100E swing arm conversion with new Progressive shocks installed, 530 sprockets/chain conversion, new SS brake lines, new brake pads. New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.
