    Empty air box GS570EC

    Hi all,
I just bought a 1978 GS 750EC this Friday, rode it home after the test drive. Tonight I went to clean the air filter and all that was there was the empty air cleaner box!

To buy the frame the holds the filter element is ~$70 (part 13780-45010), and the filter itself maybe $20. There do not seem to be any of the "frames" on e-bay right now, and I cant seem to dig up a used one from online suppliers. I did notice that there is a a K & N type filter that could slide into the box, presumably without the the need for the frame. There does not appear to be a screw hole or plate hold this in place. From searching the forum it looks like I wouldn't need to re-jet using this K&N 'stock type' (not pod) filter, is that correct? Also, if anyone is using this filter, will I need to do anything to hold it in place?

    Thanks a million in advance,
    Jason
    Regards,
    Jason

Why not look for a complete airbox on Ebay or the for sale section here? You can always buy new if you wish: http://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts/...77/air-cleaner
But, I am thinking that you could find a complete used airbox for less than just those two parts.

Thanks, I was not finding those frames, but you're right--there are quite a few air boxes that have them. I think I'll go that route and keep it original. I Just figured out how to cross reference part numbers and multiple models thanks to this site and that helped tremendously too.

      Thanks again,
      Jason

The K&N filter does not require rejetting but it does attach to the frame you're missing, so you still need that.

Thanks Charles-- since I would have to buy the filter frame either way, that pretty much seals the deal to go with the stock set-up. I found a good deal on a used airbox with filters and carb boots, etc online. I'm looking forward to getting the kinks worked out in this bike. I also have the dreaded leaky petcock draining into the 2nd cylinder, so that is next on the list. Thanks to everyone here for the wealth of info on the site and willingness to share.

          Regards,
          Jason
