    Rotor pulller ????

Has been a long time since I have been in the stator cover on the 79 Cooley. I am hearing the tell tale tick of a possible loose starter clutch bolt and wish to inspect.

Does the puller require the big screw on cap looking deal that the center bolt goes thru to pull it or just the bolt type that goes down the center once you remove the crank bolt???

If its just the bolt style I have the bolt..

Chuck, I can't answer your question but I have a similar problem. I need the same tool for my 83GS1100E . What are the thread specs, Diameter and pitch? I need to check the magnets on the rotor and take a look at the starter clutch.

I believe the bolt that I have for the style you just take the crank bolt out and thread down the center is a 16MM X 1.25 pitch. I bought a grade 8 hardened one years ago for the 750 and I think ( if I am remembering right ) it also fit the 78 1000E. I had a leaky stator gasket on the Cooley and changed that a few years ago but now I dont recall what style puller the rotor is set up for.

If it has the bell adapter thing then I will be sourcing one soon...LOL

Chuck, the 1000 takes the bolt style.

        the 1100e takes the other.

All of the 1000 rotors i have here take both the bolt up the center and the puller which threads on externally.
I believe the larger motors, 1100 etc only take the external puller, and the smaller motors i have here all take the internal or bolt style.

If you've having a problem with the bolt style, as can happen, a 10mm allen head capscrew with the head machined to a slip fit inside the 16mm thread makes a sound piece inserted in the crank end for the bolt to push on.

The 78 1000 I have just uses a bolt that threads into the rotor and that is what pushes off the rotor as you tighten up the bolt. No need for a special puller, just the proper size bolt.
If the Cooley is a 79 then that is what you need, changed in 1980, I think.

I was thinking the same thing FJBJ.....Frank Z. has the 80 model and I think he said he needs the screw on bell looking deal to pull his. I do know my 78s just use the center bolt style but wasnt 100% sure of my memory on the 79 Cooley.
