    GS550e Noob Q Regarding Headlight

Is the factory headlight lens on our GS's a true 7 inches? I recently purchased an EMGO headlight assembly listed below and I just cannot seem to get my factory headlight to install into the setup, which is supposed to be used with 7" bulbs. My factory bulb is slightly smaller than the rim of the bezel, so it has no contact in the front. I see there are clips in order to create pressure on the back of the lens, but nothing is putting pressure on the front of the lens. Basically, is this headlight too small or am I simply an idiot and the headlight is supposed to be smaller than the bezel? I did not think lenses were even made in many different size variations.

Sorry for the very noob question. Ive spent the past 3 hours messing with this damn thing and am about to throw it all against the wall.

I don't know about the 550E, but the T and L models both have the slightly-smaller light. I know the 450 also has a smaller light, but the 650 is a full 7".

One clue: is the bucket black or chrome? If it is black, it is usually a 7" light, if it is chrome, it will be smaller. I have not found a commercially-available light that will fit in the smaller bucket. It will be easier to source a larger bucket AND the mounting ears (yes, they are different), and you will end up with a MUCH better light.

Thanks for the reply Steve. I'm pretty darn sure I have a slightly smaller headlight by now. Here I was trying to save a little cost by keeping the old lens and of course it back fired.

I bought a common 7" halogen lamp from JC whitney to replace the sealed beam from my old 550E. It fit the stock bucket and rings perfectly.

Just wanted to confirm in case anyone else ran into this issue: The factory light is actually 6 7/8" or something like that. It is barely too small to fit in a standard 7" bucket. I went out and bought a 7" headlight the next day in order to solve my issues.

What do you think of the Dime City housing? Does it seem like a quality piece? I'm looking for a metal housing to replace my cracked plastic one.

Also, can you tell me where you measured on the stock light to get 6 3/4"? My headlight is currently of the bike so I might as well measure it now.
