According to carb spec chart at Basscliff's, the 1980 gs550 came stock with 92.5 mains- not sure where you got the 115 size. As hampshirehog says, pull them out and know for sure.

That might be so. I couldn't open Basscliff's FSM so I must have seen that size referenced elsewhere (Mikuni Carb Tuning BS32S) (I can see now that spec was for an 850 and I see the 550 uses a 92.5). I wish I would have had that size info for me before I went to the shop (or I could have bought a magnifier before I got this far along) but all will be revealed in good time. I think I'm on the right track now. So 97.5 is the target now.

WOOHAA!!! Put in the 97.5 mains and you guys are right! It's a whole New World above 6,000 RPM! Isn't there a line in a Hank Williams Jr. song about all my rowdy friends are coming over tonight?? Tonight arrives at 6,000!
I got a top end hit on my 93 ZR1100 just like this!
