    Rear master cylinder parts question

    Hi I have just received a rear master cylinder kit on stripping the master cylinder I cannot find one of the parts fitted to my cylinder that is included in the kit. I have looked on the microfiche and cannot locate it in SCHEMATICS http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-gs850-g-1980-1981-usa_model16057/partslist/95205.html#results

    the part I am talking about is the one at the bottom of the picture that has a small brass pip in the centre
    any help where this part fits would be appreciated.

    Not used on a GS. The spring goes in, then the cup with the flat bottom facing the open end of the bore, then the brass buffering plate, then the piston. Thats probably a universal kit and thats just in the kit. That or you got the wrong kit.

        The part you are talking about snaps/pushes onto the large end of the spring.
        Insert that attached to the large end of the spring into the bore first. Then the rubber cup goes in next with the smoothed end facing out. Then the piston with the concave metal cup facing out. There is no brass disk.
        (This is how my 850 is) I also saw a picture posted by ed that shows this same order.

          Hi guys thank you for the replies, it seems there may be different configurations I did not find any brass disc or the part with the brass pip in my cylinder (I have had this bike since it was 3 years old) is I am confident it has not been messed with, but I am confused though. I did order the kit for a 81 bike.
          i found the picture from ed on re-examination of the old bits sure enough the piece was stuck in the spring I do not know how I missed that!!!! The build is as ed's picture and as loud et described.
          just glad I did not put it on the bike.

              The one on Matts GS 1100 must be missing that rubber thing because it wasnt there when we cleaned out his master cylinder. just the bare end of the spring down the bore far as i remember it. May bot be a big though. That rubber thing sort of looks like just a buffer between the spring end and the end of the hole.

              I see now that it has holes for fluid to pass thru..which i didnt pay that close attention to the thumbnail in post 1...sorry.

                  Chuck just to clarify the piece in question is metal and what appears to be holes are indentations it is difficult to see how the fluid gets past to the calliper.

                    Looked like holes to me. In any case maybe Matts was missing a part. The brake works fine though as is.
