    Oversized gas tank

Is there anyone out here who has experience in building/fabricating over sized gas tanks? Just curious.....

There was a thread a few years ago, a fellow in Europe someplace was racing in some class that required huge fuel range. He was splitting the tank in several lines and adding sheet metal to increase the capacity by a gallon or maybe more. His tanks looked good.

If you aren't doing some sort of endurance off road racing, where you need a huge fuel tank, why not just strap on a gas can or rotopax? I suppose you could also make up an auxiliary fuel tank and plumb in in.

Then again, if you've got the welding skills, you can just chop out 3 inches in the middle of the tank, make a piece the same shape, but 5-6 wide, and weld it back together. I recommend you thoroughly wash and air out the tank before cutting or welding on it.

I added an AUX Tour Tank to my sons CX500 a few years ago.
It held an extra 3 gallons and doubled his range plus some.
A new shut off valve, a T fitting and some fuel line and it worked fine. We ran the main tank as the main ad the AUX tank as the Reserve.
Even though the reserve was more than the main. -- I may consider this for my GS850 GL (another smallish tank) -
Its gonna cost around $200 to do it with the tank being the first $180 +/- and then add in misc stuff.

There is a company called tour tanks ( http://www.tourtank.com ) they will sell you a complete kit. I have found with a little research you can find more options for a little less. Tour tanks does sell a quick disconnect that seals both sides when disconnected so you can take the tank off when you don't need the extra range. I've been looking at this option for awhile but as I pack poorly I'm hesitant to give up the room. I think I'm going to try two smaller tanks feeding the main on each side of my rear luggage.
