    Ultrasonic Cleaning of Carby parts

    Hello all, has anyone used an Ultrasonic Cleaner for cleaning carby parts? Results? Feed Back? Thanks for your help. LJR47

    It is incredible, so much better than the dip with zero noxious chemicals. A little detergent and hot water, turn it on for a while, wonderful. Quicker, cleaner, easier, better.

      I called a local guy and he said "yeah it'll get em clean and get the dirt off but they won't come out shiny and new looking"....
      Now I've seen some posts of some sonic cleaned carbs that looked fantastic.
      I really want tho get my 29mm smoothbores looking mint. I was pretty shocked when the guy I asked said it works only pretty good. I want to see some gleaming parts when I get mine done.
      So as the po asked....more opinions and feedback.

        yes it will get them spotless clean, but it wont polish them!

          Your best off getting them soda blasted first, blowing out all the holes first and then give them a blast in the ultra sound bath. Sounds like overkill but it'll ensure both outside and inside are clean. And then give them another blast with the compressed air. If you polish the bottom sections give them another few minutes in the bath to make sure no polish or grit has got inside. I put a bit of bling on mine mainly because the spreader bars looked crappy in the zinc finish, and painting them wasn't an option. An make sure you use OEM float bowl gaskets, the aftermarket ones tend to break and crap themselves.

            Sounds good. As I do with all my carbs. Outside first then inner. I made a homemade soda blaster this fall and tested it out. I can see how easy it works and brightens them well. I had clumping issues so I will make a better version before I tackle the 29's.

              I have one carb that's really dark, will the soda blasting melt the metal bright again?

                Abrasive blasting will brighten the metal. What grit to use depends on how dark and corroded the parts are to begin with.

                I tried soda on some carb bodies and wasn't happy with the results, so I moved to glass bead and it was much better.

                    This head was given the ultra sound treatment by a local huge engine recon store. Come out lame so did the walnut/glass bead way and come out clean. NOT shiny and new like new carbs, Dont think you ever get that look. Please notice the valve seat on the #4 ex. Thinking a car place did that last time. Bike places sem to take more care.
