    External threads

    I have cut many threads on my old bikes and restored many
    but I need to cut an external thread with a die on a m6
    protruding bar that is inaccessible.

    By inaccessible i mean the die fits on no problem
    bu the tool attachment with the long arms will hit
    other objects.

    Thus i need something like a socket with extension.

    How can i make this thread ?

    Can the die be turned using vice grips or needle nosed vice grips maybe??

    I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

      Get a die nut in the appropriate thread. Those can be turned with a spanner or socket. It'll be fun keeping it square to start but it'll work.

        Ill try and turn it tomorrow with grips ( a normal die)

        I looked on ebay and die nuts are available as you say.

          See if you can fit the die into a socket. An extention and ratchet will do the turning

              I am trying to thread a seat pan which was originally secured using one way
              tinnerman washers.
              I had to dremel them off and i want to now thread the posts so i never have to do that again.
              (A redesign)

              to thread these (possibly m6 posts) i cant use the full die arms as there is no space.
              .... but a die nut and socket would do the job.

                Im doing the same project. Yes getting those things off is a huge pain and all the while i thought about cutting the posts with a die to keep from ever having to do it again. But i wasnt sure about the metal quality and if they would strip when it came time to tighten them down. I ended up going to the hardware store and picking up this type in the correct size. Punch them on with a hollow tube or socket, then use a needlenose to unscrew if you ever have to. Get the thinest, lightest duty ones

                  Die nut worked a treat.
                  bar was 6.25 mm and i got a 6mm die nut.
