POR-15 failure inside gas tank
what is the solution for this? I did this tank seal about 2 years ago.
POR-15 bubbling up, soft and flakey
1981 GS750L - Owned since 1990 when graduated high school and since have been discovering all the things not disclosed by seller.
1983 GS750E - bought in 2016 as a rough runner to use while rebuilding 81L and then to combine with ES to make one good one
1983 GS750ES - bought in Toronto in 2015 on a lark as a non-runner, missing front cowling and exhaust - If you have a 1983 750ES front cowling let me know! Blue would be niceTags: None

That stuff is misrable to remove. I've done it before but don't recommend it unless the tank is irreplaceable.Ed

Ive never done it, but could that area be cut out with an Exacto knife and scraped off, some evaporust or whatever to derust that spot again, and brush some more sealer on as a patch job work??? Dont know if it will rebond to itself again or not and make a good seal would be my issue.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

Your petcock has a filter on it. I wouldn't worry much, I'd just run it. Like has been said it hell to remove and doubt it can be touched up properly. Pull your petcock once a year and keep an eye on the offending area (and the rest of the tank) and don't sweat it. In the meantime try and source yourself a used tank for down the road

I like Por-15 products for the most part, but I believe their marketing and instructions are misleading for many products. For example, they mislead people to believe that all you have to do is soak the rust in their phosphate sauce for a few mins and then you can seal right over the top. The idea is that by sealing off oxygen the rust will stop, however in my experience this is a risky approach. It's much better to soak the rust in the phosphate until all the visible rust is gone, and then seal over the surface.Ed
