    1983 gs850 oil leak

I noticed my engine putting off some smoke when I stopped at a light. I looked and found an oil leak. Does this seem to coming from the valve cover?

Tacho drive seal would be first on my list of suspects.

          Mine, as well.

There are two o-rings involved, get them both.

That's crazy, I was just about to ask about that, lol. Thanks for the advice, I'll check it out.

The tachometer was loose/not screwed in all the way.

That may not solve your problem. The drive shouldn't leak even with the cable disconnected. There is an oil seal (5x12x8) on the outer end and in behind there is an o-ring, not sure of the size.
Is this the correct model ?

Even if it was about 4-5 full turns loose?

Even if it was hanging on a nail in the shed.
If the oil seal has failed the threads might get enough of a seal to send the oil up the cable instead of to the outside.
