    Mounting engine crash guards.Gs 1000C

    Hi Forum members,
Quick question - Do you need extended bolts to install engine crash guards or is there enough thread on standard engine mounts?
    Regards Crawf

It would depend on the type of case saver you are using.
If you are needing the 9" top bolt you might have to go to the farm supply store. This is an old thread.

Depending on the type be VERY careful with the lower bolt. I have read about punctured engine cases by using a too long bolt.

Had the same question,http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...ing&highlight= .Didn't need longer lower bolts on mine but did need a longer upper one.Got a 300mm but a 280mm would have been good.

Be 1000% certain that you use the right ones on the correct sides and VISUALLY verify they wont make contact with the engine cases and punch a hole in nthem. And always remember that each sides stock bolt is different lengths. So yes, stock bolts are side specific.

In some of the kits, they supplied just one lower mount bolt. You were supposed to move the longer original mount bolt over to the other side. The kits also supplied a piece of all-thread with washers and two nuts for the front mount.

Back in the '80s, millimeters were widely considered a commie plot to weaken US manhood, so the kits usually supplied a chunk of 1/2" fine all-thread instead of the proper 12mm. Close enough, I guess...

And yes, be VERY careful about tightening the lower mounting bolts. Get under there with a strong light and verify you're not punching a hole in your engine. It's happened more than once.
