1979 Suzuki GS750

As you guys can tell i dont think its supposed to look like that, hahah.
I was wondering if previous or later year of this model or other models would work as a replacement.
P.S. How do i go about pulling this guy out? Thanks in advance.

Your bike has a 12 pole stator so you need an early rotor to match unless you want to switch both parts to 18 pole.

They make a special puller for the rotor but a bolt that matches the thread inside the rotor will work. Some guys pull the swingarm pivot bolt and use that. You gotta be careful to not butcher the threads inside the end of the crank though. A ball bearing is sometimes used for that.

Looks like someone already put a hammer to the rotor. The starter clutch is clearly shot, it's definitely not suppose to look like that.

If they did take a hammer to that rotor, there's a good chance that the magnets are damaged or the bond has been broken. I'd replace the rotor no mater what. You can go with a later model rotor but as others have said, you'll need to replace the stator to match. You might want to ohm out the stator to see if it's still in reasonable shape. That may make your decision much easier.

As others have mentioned, the rotor might be a bit compromised, but the starter clutch DEFINITELY needs to be replaced.

Before you go to all the trouble of putting the 'new' one on, check to make sure it has the proper number of poles. Use a metal coat hanger, junk screwdriver, or anything else that will be attracted by a magnet to go around the inside of the rotor, counting the number of times it is attracted. If I remember correctly, your current rotor should attract the metal rod 8 times. If your 'new' one does the same number, great. If it is attracted 12 times, you will need a new 18-pole stator to go with it.
