Painful vibration in the handlebars?

Just got my bike back together and i'm getting a very painful vibration in the handlebars in the mid to high RPM range. ( I do not have a tach). I know trying to go 65 in 5th gear is too much for my hands to handle and so I really only drive around town on it.

What would cause a vibration like this? I plan on going through and making sure all the motor mounts are tight, but can't really think of much else.

bar end weights, handlebars filled with lead shot, ribbed grips, balanced carbs, ported/balance head.

Not that I remember. It had mx bars before and now it has some pull back bars that are a little taller, if that matters.

You "got your bike together". What was apart?

Posplayr offered some suggestions on how to control the vibration, I prefer to keep it from happening in the first place, then use some of his suggestions to tame the little bit that might be left over. The simple things to check would be valve clearances and carb sync.

My 1100 is a little buzzy at certain rpms, but Ive got most of it to go away by using some heavy bar end weights, soft grips, synching the carbs, but most probably importantly... loosening up on the handlebars with my hands.

Most bikes will have some "buzz", but the cause varies, as does the amount that is felt..

Probably the most common reason behind excessive vibration in GS bikes is carbs that are not properly set up and balanced..

Suggestions for damping minor vibration have already been made, but carbs is where I would begin looking to resolve a serious vibration issue..

Get some corks that fit the bars and fill them with sand.

that is an 8 valve engine, correct? if all is right it should be very smooth through the rpm range, no shenanigans necessary. i would look for the root cause rather than apply band-aids.

All good suggestions, but that year bike probably still has points. Carb work is vital, but a PROPERLY, completely tuned bike is essential to a smooth runner.
