I also own and use a temperature laser -
I point it at the headers and they all read within a degree or two of each other as well--
So I know they are all burning and nearly the same -
My fuel economy numbers rarely vary more than a few MPG - depending on lots of conditions..
But on the interstate I get around 41 MPG and on the back-roads I get around 42-43 MPG.
Typical commuting MPG for me is 40 - but it is stop & go ; and 45 mph mixed riding
I am spoiled - I own this great 850 and a Goldwing - both of which run very well right now (knock wood)
Commuting I prefer the 850 for it's nimbleness and smaller lighter size.
But for a long highway run -- Goldwing please .

Out of curiosity, what temps do your headers generally read?https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zH8w8Civs8ejBJWjdvYi1LNTg&resourcekey=0-hlJp0Yc4K_VN9g7Jyy4KQg&authuser=fussbucket_1%40msn.com&usp=drive_fs

Well -- I was afraid someone was going to ask that question... I generally do not remember the numbers - as long as they are similar...
I am going out for short ride at lunch and will take note of the temps and post them here...
Last night after changing the plugs and idling for a few minutes they were all at 94-96 --
But that was only a few minutes -- Better ride coming shortly...

Ride finished - results below
Ambient tmps outside 65-70 light breeze moderate sun
Ride for warm up about 10-15 minutes of 45-55 mph
Header temps start around 123 degrees and go up as it idles into the 140s
As previously stated they are all within a few degrees of each other so I know they are all firing and operating similarly
PS: anyone have an extra cam end cover laying around.. - I didn't know it was gone until now...
