79 gs1000 Vin number

I bought a gs1000 but that's all I know about it lol I have the vin: Gs 1000-102075 and I also have another question why does my bike have one front brake all the ones I see have two which I would love to have.

If your bike has wire wheels, and one front brake, then that's the standard model that was made in 78 and 79.

The E models have cast wheels and 2 front discs.

If the choke lever is on the carbs, it's a 78
If the choke knob is up by the handlebars, it's a 79

Well I guess mine is a standard model 79 with cast wheels...any way to convert to two brake config?

why would anyone convert to a one disc system from a two disc system? Maybe the wheels are not standard.

Well, the front end is from the standard model, since it lacks the caliper mounts on the right fork.
It has later model cast wheels on it. Can't see anything else that defines whether it's an E , or standard model

So, to get two discs on the front, you need to get both fork lowers from an E model, the discs and another caliper.
For better braking you'll need the fork lowers, bigger discs and a twinpot upgrade.

The VIN says it's was originally the wire wheel and single disk model. Someone at some point swapped out the wire wheels with alloy ones. Not uncommon. Is your rear a 17" or 18" wheel? The rear wire wheel was 18" and the "E" model that came with the alloy wheels had twin disks and a 17" rear. The 750s came with an 18" rear and I think were also interchangeable.
