twin horns on 1978 GS1000?

Hi,

did the 1978 GS1000 have twin horns at some time? Mine has only one

but there is a bracket to mount a second one.
I found here that the 1980 GS1000S apparently had a twin horn (while the 1979 hadn't).
What is the advantage of two? Did they have a different sound (high/low), or is it just about the volume that you wanna have two?

I hardly ever use the horn (also hate those squeaky ones), but if I had a loud one, I might reconsider

The parts fiche shows two horns, high- and low-pitched. Only the low-pitched one is still available from Suzuki (for $66), but you can get similar horns at your local auto parts store for about $15-20 each.

If you decide to go with the auto parts store horns, try to look for ones with two terminals, they will connect directly to the bike. If you can only find horns with a single terminal, it's not a deal breaker, but you will have to install a relay to get them to work.

I did buy some used 1980 GS1000 horns on ebay, direct fit. I pretty much like the sound. Louder, and also more car-like. Sounds like an old VW beetle now. The old one (despite its size) sounded more like a scooter...
