Chrome effect. Pretty sure they were metal rather than cheap 'chromed' plastic. I can't tell you the exact thickness, but it's slightly less than the upper lip of the cushion that it slots on to.1980 GS550ETComment

Do you still have the lower piece? As in the piece below the cushion? If so, both upper and lower are the same diameter. They just form a decorative sandwich over and under the rubber, which is why the guys above said the part is not strictly necessary.1980 GS550ETComment
