    Part identify

83' GS1100ES. Have all the plastics/cowling off, have been working on carbs/wiring/valves, etc... everything is going back together fine but I have this part still on the tray and have no memory of where it came from. There is already one under the front fairing that holds the centre together at the front. Anyone have an idea.

as you can see it's quite clean and yellow colour, nothing like any of the rest of the parts that have been coming off.

I agree with Cipher; it looks like a cowling bracket/brace, LH and RH:

        '83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

parts list says there are two. OP says he has one in place?

Thanks Cipher, you got me looking a bit more. It's not the left/right one but the upper/lower one. The lower bracket is not the same by no means but once I looked up it made sense where it needed to go.

I haven't gotten to putting the fairing back on yet, once I did it all would have made sense but it was making me nervous seeing a part in the bin that didn't seem to belong....
