    1978 gs550e rear wheel axle nut tightening torque. can any one help

    i have looked and looked through manual

    and cant find what rear axle nut should be tightened too .

    tighten until you fart then a touch more 😇 No really its on page 152 "rear axle nut" in the manual Here

      I have always used the "tighten until it strips, then back off 1/4 turn" as my guide.

      For stuff that does not need to be quite so tight, tighten until it strips, then back off 1/2 turn.

      I guess that's one reason I don't ride a bike that requires frequent loosening and tightening of that nut.

        A foot-long spanner, tightened up just enough to squeeze everything together and line up the holes for the R-clip.
        I've never put a torque wrench on one, largely because the silencer on most of the bikes I've had got in the way anyway.

            Ahh that must have been technique used by my bikes previous owners ,It s nice to know back wheel nut is on right especially when overtaking large trucks !
