    GS1100G rear axle fitting

This bike has a clamp on the brake side and a nut on the final drive side.

My 1000G was different from memory (the other way around and no clamp, it had the more traditional suzuki bolt head).

whats the procedure for this one? The manual doesn’t say. All it says is to hold the head with a flat screwdriver in the slot (which I’m thinking wouldn’t be necessary if it was clamped first?!)

so Torque the axle bolt before clamping the head or clamp before torque?

Hold with screwdriver, torque the nut first. The end with the screwdriver slot needs to be able to slide toward the other end when the nut is torqued. This prevents squeezing the swingarm out of shape.

When removing the axle, there is no problem loosening the nut first, then the clamp, as there will be no change in the lateral squeeze on the swingarm.
