    '83 GS850L Oil Drain Plug diameter/thread size

Does anyone know what the oil drain plug diameter and thread size is of an 83 850? I could pull mine off and check it but it's not time for an oil change yet. I searched the forum for a while but couldn't find the info I need. I also checked Z1 Enterprises and they didn't show a Suzuki plug.

Also, does anyone know if the plug size is standard across all or most models/engines?

I strongly recollect it's 14mm, same as the spark plugs, which is very useful if you get stuck.
However, I might be thinking of another bike, so don't take that as gospel until you verify it.

I am inclined to agree with Grimly, I think it's 14mm.

I'm also inclined to agree but only because I checked
Part 5 on this. You will see a 14 leading the last five digits.
Forget how the length and thread pitch is encoded in there.
That info is on here in a few different places for sure.

Take a look at bolt 4-1 on that page, it's 01550-06257 , which says it's an M6 bolt that is 25mm long. I have not yet figured out the 7 at the end. It might be the head style, it might be the finish, it might be their supplier. The drain bolt only had 14002 in the part number, so it's an M14 with no choice of length.

                Yep, it's 14mm X 1.25mm pitch.

This is the same thread as the spark plugs, so it's easy to find thread repair kits.

Well now it's even easier to find spare sump plugs
Would the heat range or gap matter?

Yep, it's not unknown to see spark plugs used for temporary drain plug replacements in moto-boneyards.

The 850 can run on 3 cylinders ; but not for long with no oil ...
Seems the priority use of a spark plug has just changed...
