    Last dumb question. 1982 GS1100GL

These 3 wires run to the starter area. What do they do?
    TIA

You can find a wiring diagram on BikeCliff's website linked in my signature, right column, second from bottom. Can't see the colors of the wires in your picture for your thumb. And there's still 7 days left in the year for plenty of dumb questions. Not that your's is dumb. Sometimes we just need to know where to find the info we need. Between this site and Bikecliff's, you should be able to find all the info you need. Although, I don't think that my '82 had any connector insulators that were black. Most of mine are/were clear. So it's possible that a previous owner has done some creative electrical work in there. good luck.

      What do they do?

They lead to questions on a forum.

Showing what is apparently some black, shrink-wrapped connections isn't much of a clue. Use some carb cleaner spray, brake cleaner, WD-40, Simple Green, ... ANYTHING to clean the wires that are hidden by your thumb, and report the colors of the wires.

Suzuki was pretty good at keeping the color code rather consistent, so there would not be much difference between your '82 1100GL and an '80 850G besides the kickstand warning light switch. Click HERE for a very nicely-enhanced diagram for an 850 or click HERE for a diagram of an '82 1100G.

I use that enhanced 850 diagram as my "standard". If I am working on an earlier bike that has points in the ignition, I make mental adjustments for wire colors and locations. If I am working on a newer bike like yours, there are mental adjustments for the kickstand switch. Others have different instrument displays, which require different wires, but the basic bike wiring is pretty much like the enhanced 850 display shown above.

Are they running to the starter area or coming from there...............hmmmmmmm?

Get the diagrams and keep them on your desktop.
Knee jerk, which both Rich and Steve are thinking, is the only business three wires have down there is taking the generator output to the rectifier input and bullet connectors are the spawn of Satan.

Not quite "knee jerk", and yes, there are three wires coming from the starter area that are stator outputs, but I was really trying to coach winmag in the finer points of soliciting some help.

The only clues given were "three wires", "in the starter area" and we could see bullet connectors. Yeah, some of us could make the educated guess that they might be stator wires, but knowing wire colors would really nail it.

            Thanks. You’re correct.

Today I started digging through the box of crap the guy gave me with this bike and I found a Suzuki service manual. Guess I should have inventoried what was in there. Mostly junk on top and the guy looked like a hoarder. LOL
Think I’m going to upgrade the electrical since the motor is out, it’s all original. The 1000e I bought already had all the electrical stuff done, so this will be my first time doing it.
Little history on the bike: my son and I bought it for literally nothing and it had a title. Guy couldn’t get it running. Son and I got it going in about 15minutes, the internals on the petcock were gone causing the #2 cylinder to hydro lock and 3 of the slides were seized in place. Rebuilt the carbs and put on pods. It was smoking like a chimney so we ran the living hell out of it until it stopped. Dicked with the jetting a bit and ended at 152.5 across all. Did the valve clearance, 7 out of 8 were changed. Probably been a real long time since those had been checked. I have to work 13 out of the next 14 days so that gives some time to get the parts in.

            Thanks again all.

I didn't mean your knee jerk, I meant mine and I reckoned you were holding off for the reasons you mentioned.
