Not sure you would be able to use calipers to measure that.

Shims are hardened. More than the cams, so I would not expect much (if any) wear, and it would likely take a micrometer, not calipers, to measure any changes.

Also, unless you have previous accurate measurements on THAT shim for comparison, how can you be sure that the shim didn't start its life on the low side of production tolerances and wasn't really worn?

I just got some new 2.55 mm shims....they varied by about .0005 inch using my micrometer . I’ve found older shims that read about .001 inch below their markings. The cam lobes should wear more than shims, but they still show wear

I suppose there's a big difference between those quarter size GS shims and the smaller than dime size FZ1 shims. All my FZ1 shims measured at least .02 mm less than marked with my calipers.

measured my 2.45s that came in the mail today, confirms that my caliper is crap and is .15 lower than what it should read. gonna have abuddy check with another one to make sure but i think my new sizes i need are 2.60, 2.60 and 2.65.

GSthou is asking where you bought the shims, not the caliper.

Have you tried Suzuki Performance Spares. Sure I have used them on their EBAY site.

Once you are sure what size(s) you need --
                      I have a 2.55 and a 2.60 laying around that I will never use -- (I could use the 2.45)
I also have a few 2.50 extra I would be willing to trade if anyone is interested --
I only need smaller than 2.50 for my next adjustments

when using calipers, you only close them with enough pressure to do just that, in other words not much. An alternate method for someone new to measuring tools is to place the shim between the jaws of the calipers and close them with the fingers on the jaws themselves. Wiggle the shim to insure that the shim is flat and take your reading. Most people squeeze to hard.
The calipers should be marked for their tolerance of accuracy. I use micrometers myself when accuracy is needed.

got a new caliper from harbor freight, returned the lowes one and they asked if it still works i said its .15 mm off they said "does it turn on? can it be resold?"....cmon lowes

anyways new measurements with a correct caliper is all 2.65mm, so anyone have 3 2.60s they would throw for cheaper than a new online price?

I have two 2.55X shims that measure 2.58 and one 2.6 that is dead on. If those will work, PM me your address and I'll drop them in the mail.

what does 2.55x mean? are they miscalculated ones. but yes a 2.58 and a 2.60 will be a perfect fit for 2 of them, one valve had no clearance and the 2.58 wouldbring the clearance to .07 im pretty sure so itd be great. ill pm you right away.

The X means they're extra special. They didn't fit in with the 2.55 or the 2.6 crowd.lol

Seriously though, it's just Suzuki's way of marking the in between sizes.
