    GS1100GK seat does not lock

    Hello,

    The seat on my 1982 GS1100GK does not lock in the locking mechanism in the tail section.

    I used the key to turn the mechanism up, so it can receive the U-shaped bracket on the bottom of the seat.

    The bracket goes into the locking mechanism but even with heavy pressure/hitting with elbow the seat does not go down, does not lock.

    I moved the bracket from a forward position to the most rear position but this did not help.

    Is there a trick?

    Man, that can be a finicky latch. Subtle adjustments make a big difference.
    Edit:Fyi, the latch in your pic needs to be opened before pushing the seat down
    Re-edit: try moving the latch, or lock, up or down a smidge.

      Thank you, Roger, I will try that. I did open the latch before pushing the seat down, but things don't "snap" into place.

          Mine has been finicky.
          I shine a light in there and looks to see if should hold seat more to front or more to rear, and then that gives me some better results there after.... but still is difficult.

          Tell me again, you adjusted...what?

            I'm glad that was a simple fix MtnMan.

            Dave, sometimes pushing down on the seat to lock it pushes the lock mechanism down as well. Simply loosening the three 10mm bolts will let you raise the lock up just enough. On mine the top of the lock where the key goes in is about 4.7mm above the plastic. Well, the height of two 2.35 shims anyways.

                  I wonder why the engineers didn't make that lock in a fixed position in the first place. All I can figure is they must have left some room to adjust this lock to compensate for the rubber spacers under the seat to wear down or possibly the seat pan becoming ever so slightly deformed over time.

                    There's some deliberate slop in the mounting holes to allow for adjustments. Loosen, move a squidge, tighten, and try, try again until it works.

                    Door and hood latches on cars are adjusted in the same way. There's a bit of an art to it.
