Folding Front Foot Pegs: Won't lock upright??

I found & mounted these '79 GS750N folding foot pegs on my '78 E assuming they would fold uright & lock into that position until I pulled them back down for riding. But, for the life of me I can't get either one to do just that.

Were these ever supposed to lock in the upright position, or do they simply fold in should the bike lay down? I'm tired of bashing my shin while rolling it in/out of storage!

    Thanks in advance, Gang.

yes, you'll have to get the spring out of them and stick a washer or something I guess. My suzukis all have sprung footpegs..not intended to lock up at all I think. Honda and Kawaski do or did have folding footpegs. Not sure I like em better, except per the centrestand... and if I still had a kickstart bike I seem to recall hitting the footpeg then too!

but it needs a new habit to check them as deployed when I take off..they can get pushed up when buying gas etc...while the Suzukis i needn't think about them

my 84 was spring loaded pegs for driver they don't stay up. I think the intent was lessen damage on tip overs.

I'm with rich, never remember fronts that stay up. & There is a reason for that, just like a reason for the clutch switch & side stand switch. Aggravating sometimes, but every now & then, you may be glad it's there.

Don't believe such things exist. Yours will be the first.

Like many of the others, I have only seen 'locking' pegs on the rear.

All the front pegs are spring-loaded and do not latch.

I can't imagine what it would take while on the road to accidentally fold up that peg, but the fact that it does NOT latch into place will ensure that the rider has someplace to put his foot when the excitement dies down a bit.

Yep, the front pegs on most bikes fold, but are spring-loaded. If you drag the pegs, they'll spring back into place.

There are a few models where the pegs are fixed in place and don't fold. Folding pegs might be a later mandated safety feature... not sure about that. I think I've only seen fixed pegs on early models, but I couldn't swear to it.

The spring loading is somewhat optional; quite a few folks replace the rubber faced pegs on V-Stroms and KLR650s with cheap fleaBay off-road pegs, and they often don't come with springs. Gravity does a mostly acceptable job of keeping them in place. The springs do keep them from rattling if your feet aren't on them, but that's a minor detail.

And yeah, there's no such thing, nor should there be, as front pegs that fold and stay up.
