1982 GSX400T seat mount

So when I got my bike, the rear half of the frame was bent. I repaired that today by grafting a section of another frame on. That's all straight and square don't worry.

My question is about the seat mount. Because the frame was mangled and bent at the very back where the seat mounts, and someone just shoved it in to make it fit, I'm not sure if the seat bracket is supposed to go on the inside or the outside of the frame? Or if this bracket is even the proper one? Looks like there's room to bend the bracket to mount either way

On my 82 450t it fits on the outside. Either way it's the bolt that carries the weight, I'd go with whichever side the bracket is happiest being on.

Ok, got it! And for the signals, does it go Frame-Signals-Seat, or Frame-Seat-Signals?

If you don't have a manual or if the manual doesnt clearly show something the parts fische is usually a good place to see how things are assembled.

My seat goes on as Frame-signals-seat. This is because the oem turn signals rest on a pin to set their rotation correctly....always a pain removing this seat because it bolts on, , bolt must be at least partially withdrawn from fender, turn signals tend to fall and dangle from their wires... .to help this, I cut at the holes on the seat mount so it can be slid off bolts that are merely loosened.

They should and could have come this way, but maybe the lawyers were worried about the seat coming off and causing an accident. I took mine off once and the next time I had the hacksaw and file ready.

It's a good/great seat with a no rust pan. The split level part I'd like to get rid of but that will have to wait until the cover wears out.

Yeah, forgot about that pin thingy. My lights have been relocated to the rack so I haven't had to deal with them since I did that mod two yrs ago.

Thanks all, I will open up the mounting holes on my seat too. I always thought that setup was a little finicky.
