    dirty speedo screen

    Hi all,

since I got my GS 3 years ago I am annoyed that the plastic screens of my speedo/tacho are not clean. From the inside. So someone must have opened them, and entirely failed to clean them by using a dirty cloth.

Surely a minor issue, but since I need to change the bulb of the High Beam light anyway, how difficult is it to open those speedo cases? I did change some of the bulbs already last year (hence the pic), but did not bother to open up the cases
I read somewhere here that you have to pry them open with some tool but cannot find it anymore. Anything to take special care of? Just trying not to break stuff...

    Thanks

Use a flat bladed screwdriver or similar to pry around the ring. You don’t need to overdo it just enough to get a little room.

      ^^^...That's about it. ^^^^

Cheapo "$" store "jewellers screwdriver set" slot are small enough to get under the rim to start. Or the point of a knife with a locking blade if you're careful.

Just be careful to note the order of the parts as you take it off.

These gauges are not exactly well-sealed. And, any oils and the like can vaporise-condense inside them too so be careful of that.

Ok, worked well on the tacho, it shines like a diamond now. Got too impatient on the speedo, and cracked the "glass" . Another lesson learnt (quite a repetitive one for me).
I'll add a used speedo to the list of things I look for on ebay...
