Started looking at getting some familiarity with piston rings. (taint never seen any of my piston rings before this project, and dont want to see any again afterwards).
Reading the factory manaul and practicing with the rings that came with the replacement/salvage pistons.

(picture doesnt specifically pertain to my question.)

For my 1100GK engine rebuild, I got a used set of pistons (and new rings and new wrist pin clips). The pistons came with wrist pins, and were stated to be low mileage.

Question: WOuld you recommend using the wrist pins that came with the pistons? Pistons are low mileage, and wrist pins come out easy and look good.
Or, use my original wrist pins. Are going back on existing con rods, 84K. I had to work at getting a couple of them out.

    Thanks

Personally, if i'm choosing between used pins, they get measured - carefully.
3 places - the two ends which run in the pistons - and the center.
Least worn set of four wins - provided they are the same wall thickness. Discolouration is grounds for exclusion.
I do give them a quick polish with 240 wet and dry paper in the lathe.

If you're really picky, you could weight match them too.

You might like to check these people out I use them all the time now. All their stuff is excellent quality. The piston rings that I used in my last two rebuilds were NPR who supply OEM. The cost is a fraction of OEM

Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

          ......
Good idea. I have digital calipers. My originals have some dark discoloration, so maybe not bother with the measuring.
          Thanks.

Need a micrometer that reads down to .0001" to measure wrist pins.

I'd go with the pins from the new/used pistons.

            To measure is to know.
