    HELP Carb problem (I think)

Just been for a ride on my GS 1000E got home and noticed petrol running out the pet cock and realy pouring out of one of the carb overflow pipes at the bottom of the the carbs the only way to stop it was to take the tank off abit quick.
Does anyone have any idea what is causing this ?
Any help would be realy help full.
    Thanks Trev

does it only leak with the engine running? if so, you have either a stuck float, or a leaky float valve...if not, than you have a leaky petcock AND the float valve issues

It does it running or not.Is it a big job to sort the carbs out then ? Im no good with spanners and such so will it be a garage job.

The petcock itself dripping fuel means it needs to be repaired or replaced. You can have a rebuild kit installed in the petcock, or you can buy a new one.
As a likely successful alternative to those two options, there is a small "O" ring on the diaphram plunger that usually wears out. YOu can try having only that "O" ring replaced. If your local shop has the correct size "O" ring, I think that will remedy the problem with the petcock.

As for the carb/carbs dripping fuel out of the over flow, the most likely cause if the "O" rings under the float need seats have worn out. This results in the float needle bot veing able to shut of fuel flow into the bowls when the float is in the raised/cut off position. A couple more "O" rings here and you will probably be ok on this too.

The petcock can be repaired without having to remove it from the fuel tank. (if you wish)

Replacing the "O" rings in the carb float needle seats is going to require the carbs to be removed.

They both are easy jobs, so it should not be overly costly for labor. "O" ring costs are next to nothing. :-)
