    Compatible engines?

    Hey all-

    A friend of mine is parting out his '82 550 (don't know if it's the L or M). I have a '77 550B.

I'm just wondering if it's worth buying the engine/carbs from him as a backup for mine. Are they using the same engines or were there enough modifications between the years that they are completely separate beasts?

Sorry if similar a question has been asked before....I searched the forum but couldn't find anything on it!

    Thanks!

The crankcase part numbers are the same for both 82 models & your 77. The Engine shold fit.
The carbs are different. Try & get them as well. If it's an L model the air cleaner should fit. (you'll need an air cleaner) The M model has a different air cleaner part number.

Hey neighbor, keep an eye on the Meetingplace forum. We New England riders have the most organized rides per season than anywhere in the country. Don't let those Texans make you think otherwise!

I ride, therefore I am.... constantly buying new tires.

Except for the carbs they should be a direct replacement
