    Tire Date codes.....something fishY?

    HI all,

this question's for a friend of mine whos interested in buying a tire off ebay.

i emailed the seller, asking what the date code was, and he replied "b6n38". its "supposed" to have 1500km on the tire.

Im pretty sure (not 100%) that date codes are only in 3 and 4 number codes *3 before yr 2000, and 4#'s after 2000.

could this actually be the date code? thanks.

It doesn't sound like a date code Maybe check the Mfg web site for info. A private seller on ebay without further info I would suspect the tire is at least 7-10 years old

Don't buy used tires - they're like used underwear. 8O Find the money for a new one.

the date code would be the last set of numbers stamped in the DOT numbers.
you wouldn't buy used mens underwear off E-bay would you?
you don't want to buy used tires off E-bay.
(now "used" womens under wear, thats a differant subject)

NO, on the side of the tire will usually be a small oval imprint. Beside the imprint it will say DOT. Next to the DOT in the small oval area it will show either three numbers or four numbers. Three numbers were used until 1999. After that four numbers are used. In either case, the first two numbers are the week of the year. The third number in a three digit code is the year. In a four digit code, the 3rd and 4th numbers are the year.
For example 513 would be the 51st week of 1993. 5103 would be the 51st week of 2003.

There are no letter and number combinations.

Dont buy a used tire unless youre planning on using them for bumpers on your tugboat rail. LOL
