Will Dunlop GT501 tires fit the wheels on my 78 GS1000?

The Dunlop website says no...I think.

It says you need a rim much wider than those on my bike. However, the tire size converts perfectly.

    a 3.50 19 is a 100/90 19
    a 4.50 17 is close to a 110/90 17

it's the rim width nonsense that has me confused. Will these tires fit okay? If not, what's a really good tire that will fit?

    Thanks,
    Jay

The 100/90/19 would fit the front. In my DennisKirk cat I don't see a size listed that will fit the rear. 110 is wat too small I have a 130/90/17 (4.50/17) rear on my 850. you should have the same size rim.
If you go to the Dunlop 491 MT90H-19 front MT90HB-17 rear

Oops! I screwed up. I meant a 140/80 17 rear tire. I don't know where I got that other number...

The 140/80/17 WILL NOT fit If you want to use that size it would require that you update to the later style wider wheels

If you have the stock rims yes. That's what I run on my 78 GS1000 both front and back.

Are the 491 a fairly sticky tire? Also, I saw the MT90B17 rear tire, but I only see an MM90-19 front tire - is that right?

Thanks for your help, this is the first time I've had to buy tires for a bike.

The 491 is a good tire yes but my opinion has been that the 501 is better. I really like them.
