My bored out '82 gs1000g does 140miles to reserve, don't know if it uses the same size tank.

My stock 1983 GS1100E went yesterday 200 miles before reserve. Even with some spirited riding in between.
Would seriously look into that bad gas milage of yours.
Even Jethro with pods and a 4 into 1 gets better

Yeah, that's what I figured. First time I've had a good run since rebuild. Just been driving round town before so I didn't expect great mileage. Any clues? Mains are 1 size up over stock. Ticks over without choke after about a minute. I've seen a lot of people say their bike takes a long time to warm up. Primary circuit way too rich maybe? Rik

Have you done any tune up/maintenance work lately?
Was the fuel fresh in the tank? Air filter clean? Did you take any plug reads?
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Yeah, I'm looking at mid 40's even with my pod filters and stage 3 kit. I've never hit reserve on this bike, but I'm thinking about 210 miles to a tank of gas is my range.

Wow... I'm only getting 32-38mpg in the 750. Apparently something isn't quite right!

Blargh... Time to spring for a sync tool and go from there. Oh well, at least it tells me that it can get better. I suppose I can be happy that it will improve rather than frustrated that there's more work to do!

My '83 1100 gets 35 but I have some work to do on it. I can get better.

                        City- 35mpg
                        Highway- 46mpg

If you're mileage is crappy from driving around town, make sure you're not riding in higher gears. I typically try and keep it in 4th or 5th around town. If I ride it in 3rd, I notice a drop in mileage.

Pods and 4-into-one with rejetting on my 81 GS750L.

It consistently got horrible mileage until I upgraded to high quality sparkplugs and sparkplug wires.

I had a set of crappy (by automotive standards) cager sparkplug wires on the bike and it didn't burn the gas well. Had all kinds of fumes coming out the exhaust for the LONGEST time. Come to find out it was that the crappy wires weren't carrying the full energy from the coils to the sparkplugs.

On a related note - what's the cheapest source for the tool? MAWOnline is the best I've found so far... I'm debating whether I want to spend about $40 on the tool or pay a shop $40 to do it for me.

I can tell you from experience with my old Honda......

NEVER under-estimate the power of new plugs/filter/oil and valve adjustment when it comes to increased MPG. Doing those 4 things help IMMENSELY!

                              Good luck.
