    Maximum Safe Charging Rate?

Not on the bike, but with my charger. I can't find my trickle charger (which runs at 1000mA), so I am wondering if I can use my regular charger, which has a 2A setting? Bike is an 82 GS1100E and I just want to top up the battery before starting to crank it over after a lot of work.

        Re: Maximum Safe Charging Rate?

Normal charge rate is 10% of AH capacity. For the 1100, that would be 1.4 amps. I have used a 2 amp charger for years and never had a problem.
I usually check battery voltage to get % of charge in the battery and calculate how long I can leave the battery on charge at 2 amps without overcharging it. Most chargers these days though have an auto shut off once a battery is charged so time would not be a problem. If a battery measures around 12.5 volts, I dont leave it on a 2 amp charger more than
        3 hours.

The charge rate was what I really needed, but didn't have... Thanks to all for the replies and confirmation of what I thought would be OK.

I have a "Battery Minder" by vdc electronics, it's a great lil charger, it also "Desulfates the battery" so you can bring back a battery that would not normally hold a charge, I use it on my lawn tractor battery and now will use it on the bike.

BatteryMINDers' desulfating battery charger maintainers fully charge without ever overcharging, no matter how long they are left connected. Visit our website to browse our available products.
