HELP!!! First time carb rebuild

got carbs apart
removed float chamber
next step in clymers says remove float pin, only 16th of an inch of pin is showing and it is stuck, suggestions on how to remove without damaging float pin???

edit: Wait, the float pin or the Float Needle? The Needle should just fall right out. Give it a slight yank. :? The Float PIN, which holds the float on, you need to tap it out with a nail.

yup, been there and have all the pics printed out and sitting on the bench

yes, it's the pin that holds the floats on, but no hole on the opposite side

If it's stuck because there is muck on it, spray or daub it with carb cleaner and let it work in. Don't get any on the floats if they're plastic.

A nail should work to push it through, but be careful not to break the support posts.

make sure you use a GOOD fitting screwdriver on the pilot jets, or youll start to strip them.

I am in the same boat but unfortunately I broke one of the support posts. Am I SOL or can the post be reattached with JB weld. I am absolutely sick about this, those damn pins are so tight I can't even move them and I broke one already.

JB Weld will disolve in gas over time.

Broken float post repair:
Send carbs with broken off parts. We can repair them even with out the original part. We use steel reinforcements for structural integrity and fill the original missing shape in with a special marine epoxy that wont ever be affected by any chemical that the carbs will ever come in contact with. This is a PERMANENT repair. The finished product will mimic the original shape and size.

I believe someone here contacted the JB Weld folks and they claim it is not affected by gas (do a search - I can't see results of gsresources searches here at work), but I would worry about how strong it is. It isn't subject to a lot of force, but I agree with the motocyclecarbs people, it would be best to drill a hole in each piece and put in a pin to reinforce it. the challenge is getting the holes to line up exactly. It would be worth seeing what they would charge.

Or keep your eye on eBay for another set of carbs...
