    1984 GS1100GK Cracked Front Visor

    Help!!!

I cracked the front visor windshield on my bike
The crack is from the top left extending about 30 cm towards the front wheel.
The bike fell over and basically the visor fell onto a gate and cracked.

Any suggestions on how to repair / replace this would be greatly appriciated.
    Anyone have a spare visor?

    Sincerely,
    Joel

    You cannot fix it.

    You can replace it.

Pay a visit to a hardware store and buy a piece of 1/8 inch (or 118mm if they have the metric size) LEXAN. Buy the brand name. Do not remove the protective covering.

Remove the mirrors and windshield mount frame.

Place the old (damaged) windshield/visor flat against the Lexan sheet. It will be your template.

Run a marking pen around the old unit to make an outline that exactly matches the old unit.

Using a jig saw or spiral saw, you are ready to cut out a new windshield!

    Recommendation

AFTER the drawing is made, practice cutting the material in an area that you will not be using, to be sure your blade and saw are up to the job.

Make sure the Lexan is supported at all times during the cut. Otherwise it may flex and the blade will cause unwanted damage.

Once the shape is obtained, place a piece of wood beneath the Lexan and hold the old unit directly over it.

Using the old unit as your guide, drill your mount holes directly through both pieces.

You can now use a small sander with a FINE grit to finish off the edges.

It is possible to go farther in polishing the edge, but I have never bothered.

Yes, you can use a thicker dimension if you desire.

No, the 1/8 inch will not bend in the wind. The curvature keeps it nicely in place, even at 100mph.+

No, it is not necessary to heat it in an oven.

The above is what I have done, and what is on my bike right now.

Yea what Ron said!!!! Nice directions Ron. That is exactly what I did both times I've replaced mine. I'm fixing to cut the one I have on my GK now down to a lower heigth for summer and make another one for winter ridding. Does anyone have an original Windsheild on their Gk? If you do I would like a pattern of it and would be willing to pay for the time and postage to send it to me. Mine hasn't had the original since I've owned it and I don't think the one that it had when I bought it was the correct pattern for it. So I would like to be able to do it right.
