    Clutch Play

    Here is a good one.

    Clutch adjusted. Period.

Next morning, the slack is gone. I mean the cable is TIGHT.

Ok, adjust it. 30 minutes down the road, the slack is ten fold. Won't even dis-engage the clutch. Adjust clutch slack at the lever.

So, after work, Damn clutch lever is tight again.

So, all in all, here is the situation. When it's cold, the clutch tightens WAY up.
When she warms up, the clutch LOOSENS way up.

I've lubed the clutch cable, re-adjusted the adjuster. Taken out and lightly greased the push rod.

Anyone else with this problem? Works fine, just all of a sudden needs constant adjustment.

    Thanks.

Did you install new friction plates? If so what brand? I recently installed EBC friction plates and your description fit my situation to the T. I readjusted my clutch after about a 20-30 minute ride and have just dealt with it for the past month. BTW, after my bike sits for a while, the plates drag enough that if started in gear with clutch lever pulled, my bike will shoot, not creep, forward about a car length. :? I'm ordering another brand of plates for my 7/11 to compare.

My 82 1100E does something like that Dan, First gear with the clutch pulled in it will lunge forward a good bit, If I start it and then put it in first gear it really clanks hard. any other gear shifts smooth and un-noticeable????

Rotella T. 15-40. Been using it for a while now.

Dan, I got the plates from Partsnmore.com. I don't recall a name on them. I changed them out about 6 to 8 months ago. Been fine til the other day.
The only thing I did was this: Sitting in traffic one day, the clutch was cable was loosening up. The bike was getting really hot. SO I went to adjust the clutch and it was already out as far as it could go. So I re-adjusted both adjusters to get the adjuster at the handle in the middle, to 3/4 of the way in. I was thinking of maybe a cable bind, could the heat from the engine cause it to loosen up?

Also, less than 1,000 miles on this oil change?

Question: Has anyone ever had the pusher assembly wear out on them? Sorry for the nomenclature. Not sure what it's called. It's what the cable attaches too and pushes the push rod.
