    What does this tell you?

When I start her up and let her warmup then pull plugs they are all just right, maybe a little dark but that makes sense due to ideling. Now when I go for a ride and check the plugs number 1 is still white while all the others are perfect tan. Hmmmm...

leaky intake boot? do a search there is tons of info on figureing out leaky intake boots,, could be a leakey seal around the carb #1 around the air box. are all your jets and things all the same?

      Air screw

It could be that the air screw is set slightly lean.....sometimes just a little adjustment makes quite a bit of difference....and it's easy to give it a try (as long as you don't have those irritating plugs covering them up.)

Checked the boots on both sides of #1 carb and they are tight, all jets are the same....sooooooo... I will mess with the mixture screw, all the caps are off and I did a synch last year with a Morgan CarbtuneII..love that thing.

I have that particular carb at 2.5 turns out on the mixture screw right now, all others are about 1 3/4 to 2 turns out.

If your bike idles good and all the plugs are the same color at idle, then I think you can forget the low speed circuts in the carb. Have you done a plug reading at a constant mid throttle or constant wide open throttle speed?? This will sometimes point to the circut that is not working right. If your plugs up to 1/4 throttle are ok, but your 1/4 to 3/4 is lean, you could be having problems with the slide or needle. Is the wide open plug reading ok? If so, then it's probably not main jet circut related. It is a real pain doing all these test's, riding at the diferant throttle ranges, killing the engine, letting it cool down, pulling the plugs, ect, ect. But it WILL point to the area you are having problems with and you can go from there. Did you take the carbs apart and are you SURE all the needle clips are in the same groove's??

Hey, been on the road on a business trip and am finally getting back to my favorite website.

Keith, my bike idles fine and yes I have done the test you mentioned because last year I had a problem with the wrong size pilot jet fouling my plugs (I bought a carb kit and did not realize the pilot jets were bigger...duh...put the originals back in a viola, all better til now..). These are CV carbs,...clips??...I did not mess with the diaphragms, plugs were good color before I did a complete carb dip.

Funny you should mention that though because when I let her warm up then kill the engine and check, that plug is a little darker (the rest are noticeably darker).

              Hey,
The clips I'm thinking of are the needle clips, they hold the needle inside the slide at the proper height. Later model CV's have non-adjustable needle clips, though I thought your year of bike should have adjustable clips. In any case the throttle test's should show what circuts need looking at.
