I ask becasue my rear turn signals are really dim. Not visable enough during the day. The front flashers have single filament bulbs in them, the rears double. None are lit up unless the flasher is on, that is, there aren't running lights. I tried to get single filament bulbs for them, hoping that would brighten them up, but the little pitons on the bulb bottom are differnet. I assume the whole stalks are different and were changed at some point, but which ones? The single filaments or the duals? Do you guys with the 83 1100E have running lights or not, and are you sure it is stock?

Hey Jethro,
I think that the stock ones in mine are the other way around, double in the front, with runnning lights, and single in the rear without (although the replacement lights I bought for the rear are dual for future runninlights there too.
I will double check in the daylight tomorrow

Stock is dual element in the front and running lights. Single element on the rears.

I friggin' hate dealing with the directionals. I'll have to see if I can just swap the single filament fronts with the dual filament rears and make the fronts work as running lights as well, but I think the stalks are differnet front and rear. Otherwise looks like I have another $50 to spend.Currently bikeless

Why not just switch the bulbs?Put the rear bulbs in the front and the front in the back and I bet all is OK...
I'm sure you are right about the flasher only lighting the running lamp filament and that's why it's dim. I assume the dual filament signals have more wires coming out, maybe I can change the configuration of them and get it to flash the bright filament. we'll see tonight.Currently bikeless

If you find the ground wire then hook the other two wires together it should activate both filaments at the same time.Currently bikeless

Piggybacking the elements works just fine. It does boost the power consumption from 23 watt turn signal/7 watt running light to a 30 watt turn signal. Probably will not require a different flasher, but the flash rate will be a little faster.

Of course, this is coming from a mechanical engineer, so take it with a grain of salt... You may want to wait for one of the electrical gurus to chime in with a more informed opinion.
